I remember this being a point in EJ's career when the hits stopped coming and he seemed to be at a crossroads. It was an unusual choice for him to release "Song For Guy" which, as you mention, stiffed in the U.S. Few people give this album any attention today. I'm glad you brought it up though! I need to give it another listen since he still had decades ahead of him!
My best friend is the little sister of Guy, this track has, and still does give the family a lot of comfort.
Amazing single. It haunted the radio over that entire christmas. A premonition that I was going to be an ideal fan of The Cure.
